Watch The Full Conversation
See how Jayne turns radical honesty, psychological safety and self-awareness into practical leadership work.
In this episode of Queensland Business Stories, Jayne joins Chris Tipper to talk about spiritual alchemy, burnout, external achievement, difficult truths and the courage required to stop performing a version of success that no longer fits.
The Photocopier Moment
Jayne’s first turning point came during a short lunch break as a primary school teacher. Standing at a photocopier, she found herself asking a question she could no longer ignore: is this all there is?
The answer did not arrive immediately. A difficult breakup and a period of low confidence followed. Personal development and coaching eventually gave Jayne a language for the abilities she had not recognised in herself and a path toward taking bigger, braver steps.
Spiritual Alchemy Without The Woo-Woo
Jayne knows the word spiritual can make a business audience wary. Her definition is grounded: it is the process of knowing yourself more deeply, peeling back layers of identity and understanding why you respond, avoid and lead the way you do.
The biggest gift is to know yourself, again and again.
For Jayne, the alchemy is the change that becomes possible when limiting beliefs and old patterns stop running the show.
Achievement Is Not The Same As Alignment
Many high achievers are driven by a need to prove their worth externally. The next milestone can bring status and recognition without bringing fulfilment. Over time, that gap can become burnout, overwork or a quiet sense that the life on paper does not match the life being lived.
Jayne is clear that burnout is not a badge of honour. Fear, procrastination and people-pleasing can look like commitment from the outside while keeping a leader stuck underneath.
Safety For People Used To Being In Control
Senior leaders are often expected to have the answers and hold the room. Deeper work asks them to do the opposite: admit uncertainty, confront patterns and say things they may not have said anywhere else.
Jayne’s role is to create enough psychological safety for that honesty without making the person feel exposed or diminished. The work is demanding, but the point is practical change in how they lead, decide and relate to the people around them.
The Cost Of Avoidance
Avoidance rarely stays neutral. Unspoken resentment grows, opportunities are missed, important conversations drift and business decisions remain stuck.
Jayne’s closing advice is deliberately simple: ask yourself what truth you have been avoiding. Meaningful change starts when the answer is honest.
Human Connection Still Goes Deeper
Jayne sees AI as useful for answers and information, but not as a replacement for the human presence required in deeper transformational work. The important moments often sit below the surface, where context, trust and a willingness to stay in the uncomfortable conversation matter.
