Cloud Migration Questions We Get Every Week
How long does a cloud migration take?
For most Brisbane SMBs (10--50 staff), expect 4--8 weeks for a full migration. Smaller teams can be faster. If you have a large file server, legacy line-of-business software, or a complex network, allow a bit more time. We'll give you a specific estimate after the assessment.
Will we lose access to our files during the migration?
No. We run migrations in parallel -- your existing systems stay live until everything in the new environment is tested and working. Your team keeps working throughout. The cutover happens over a weekend at most.
We already pay for Microsoft 365. Do we really need help setting it up?
Depends on how it's set up. A lot of businesses are paying for M365 but still sharing files by email, not using SharePoint properly, and skipping MFA because "it's annoying." We see this constantly. A properly configured M365 environment looks very different from one that was just turned on.
What does cloud migration cost?
Migration is typically scoped separately from your ongoing managed IT fee. It depends on the size of your environment and complexity of the move. Do we still need on-site IT after moving to the cloud?
Usually no, or much less of it. Most day-to-day IT management can be done remotely once you're properly set up in the cloud. We do visit on-site for the migration itself and for hardware issues, but most support happens without anyone needing to come to your office.
We have a line-of-business application that only runs on a local server. Can we still migrate?
Yes. We handle this regularly. Options include keeping the specific server for that application while moving everything else to the cloud, running it in a virtual machine, or hosting it in Azure. We'll assess the application during discovery and recommend the right approach.
